Sangha Work Day

Sunday September 23 – 9:00AM – 12:00PM: Sangha work day with lunch provided. Come join the PZC staff and residents and volunteer a few hours around the Zen Center. We’ll be working inside and outside so please dress accordingly. A hearty home cooked vegetarian lunch will be provided afterwards. Come help us get things ready for the New England Autumn!

The next Christian/Buddhist Retreat is scheduled for September 29, 2012 9:00AM-4:00PM

Christians and Buddhists can use very similar techniques of contemplative prayer and meditation to help make their spiritual teachings a living part of their daily existence. These retreats emphasize sitting and walking meditation, and include talks and discussion. Each retreat runs from 9:00am to 4:00pm and includes a vegetarian lunch. Beginners are welcome. No prior experience necessary.

Kevin Jiun Hunt, OCSO, Sensei was certified as teacher of zen in 2005 by Roshi Robert Jinsen Kennedy, student of Bernard Tetsugen Glassman and Maezumi Roshi (White Plum Sangha)Fr. Kevin Hunt, O.C.S.O., has been a Trappist Monk at Spencer Abbey for over fifty years. In 2004, after thirty years of Zen meditation and training, he was installed as a Zen sensei (teacher), making him the first North American Trappist to be both Catholic monk and authorized Zen instructor.

José Ramírez, JDPSN is the Guiding Teacher of the Delaware Valley Zen Center, which he helped found in the Spring of 1999. He has been practicing in the Kwan Um School of Zen since 1994, and received Inka in April 2009. He has a degree in mathematics from the Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas, Venezuela, and a Masters and Ph.D in statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In his role as an industrial statistician he works closely with engineers and scientists to help them make sense of data. He lives in Providence, Rhode Island with his wife and daughter.

Summer Kyol Che 2012

Diamond Hill MonasterySaturday July 14 – Friday August 10 2012

A Kyol Che (“coming together”) is a longer, intensive meditation retreat held in the winter and summer. Held at our Diamond Hill Zen Monastery, it is modeled after the traditional winter and summer retreats in the mountain temples of Korea. For more detailed information, download the Kyol Che Information Booklet (pdf format).

Please register for Kyol Che retreats at least one week in advance.

Entry and exits are Saturday and Wednesday mornings 8AM only.

Retreat fees are:

$455/week for non-members and associate members;

$315/week for students, clergy and school members;

$245/week for Dharma Teachers and Dharma Teachers in training in the Kwan Um School of Zen.

Half price for Eastern Europeans who are members in good standing of their home zen centers (does not apply to Eastern Europeans living in the U.S.).

Public Dinner & Kyol Che Opening Ceremony

Friday January 6 – 5:30PM – Public vegetarian dinner in celebration of Winter Kyol Che. At 6:30PM there is special chanting in the main Dharma Room followed by regular chanting at 7:00PM. At 7:30PM we will have the opening ceremony for Winter Kyol Che.

49 Day Memorial Ceremony for Myo Ji Sunim, JDPS

Sunday December 18 – 12:00 – 1:00PM – 49 Day Memorial Ceremony for Myo Ji Sunim, JDPS, with a light lunch afterward. Myo Ji Sunim had been a student of Zen Master Seung Sahn since 1976. A longtime resident of Canada, she was ordained a nun in 1990, then trained at Seoul International Zen Center. Since 1995, she was the abbot of New York Chogye Sa temple. May her teaching continue to help all beings.

Yong Maeng Jong Jin retreats are two, three or seven days long and are held in silence. The schedule each day consists of ten hours of Zen practice (bowing, chanting, sitting and walking), work and rest periods, and vegetarian meals eaten in traditional temple style. Includes talks and kong-an teaching interviews with a zen teacher. Minimum participation is 24 hours. For more detailed information, read the Yong Maeng Jong Jin Orientation Guide (pdf format). Prior meditation experience or attendance at a meditation instruction class is recommended.
