Sunday September 11 – 4:00PM: There will be an interfaith memorial service for the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at the Front Green of Brown University (at the East end of College St.) Since we are one of the organizers of the event, we encourage as many of the our Sangha members to attend as possible and wear their robes and kasas. Planned by the Faith Community of RI, RI State Council of Churches, Brown Univ. Chaplaincy, and representatives of various faiths. Activities earlier and later to be announced.

Sunday November 13 – 12:00 – 1:00PM: We will have a Chinese Calligraphy Class taught by Kitchen Master Chong Yew. He has over twenty years of experience and many examples of his work can be seen throughout the Zen Center and are available to purchase through the Pagoda Gift Shop. Wednesday February 8 – 5:30PM: Public vegetarian dinner followed by meditation instruction class at 6:30PM. Also at 6:30PM special chanting begins in the main Dharma Room followed by regular chanting at 7:00PM. There will be two sitting periods this evening beginning at 7:30PM with kong-an interviews with special guest teacher Tim Lerch, JDPSN.
Bio: Timothy Lerch, JDPSN, received inka from Zen Master Seung Sahn in 2001. Lerch PSN was the abbot of the Providence Zen Center in Cumberland RI, the head temple of the Kwan Um School of Zen in America from 2000 to 2006, and has trained extensively in the US and Asia. From 1995 to 1999 he was the resident director of the Kwan Um School center in Seattle. Prior to joining the Kwan Um School he trained in the Japanese and Vietnamese Zen traditions. He was ordained a monk in 1996. After having trained as a monk for 10 years, Lerch Poep Sa Nim returned to lay life in 2006 and is currently a musician and music teacher living in Seattle.
October 30 – 9AM – 3PM: Sangha Work Day with lunch provided, followed by our Halloween Party. Come and help get the grounds of PZC ready for the Fall.

Our Wednesday open house, like most of our public programs, is always free, but any donations are gratefully accepted. If you would like to make a donation to our center, you can do it securely online with credit card or PayPal.

August 12 2012 – 10:00AM: The Center offers classes for children ages 4-17 and their families in meditation, mindfulness and the Buddhist Tradition. There is a general information flier available for the Dharma School on-line (pdf format).
Also at 9:00AM we will have meditation instruction in the main Dharma Room and at 10:00AM we will have a Dharma Talk.
Monday August 1, at 7:30 PM, following regular chanting we will have the opening ceremony for Summer Kyol Che.

Please join us for the weekend of July 30-31, 2011. This is the Kwan Um School of Zen Founder’s Day celebration for Zen Master Seung Sahn, held annually at the Providence Zen Center.
Sunday May 20 - 9:30AM – 3:30PM. One day retreats consist of sitting and walking meditation from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm followed by an informal meal. Includes kong-an teaching interviews with Jose Ramirez, JDPSN. There is an orientation at 8:45 am for first-time retreat members. Prior meditation experience or attendance at a meditation instruction class is recommended.
