Christians and Buddhists can use very similar techniques of contemplative prayer and meditation to help make their spiritual teachings a living part of their daily existence. These retreats emphasize sitting and walking meditation, and include talks and discussion. Each retreat runs from 9:00am to 3:30pm and includes a vegetarian lunch. Beginners are welcome. Kevin Jiun Hunt, OCSO, Sensei was certified as teacher of zen in 2005 by Roshi Robert Jinsen Kennedy, student of Bernard Tetsugen Glassman and Maezumi Roshi (White Plum Sangha)Fr. Kevin Hunt, O.C.S.O., has been a Trappist Monk at Spencer Abbey for over fifty years. In 2004, after thirty years of Zen meditation and training, he was installed as a Zen sensei (teacher), making him the first North American Trappist to be both Catholic monk and authorized Zen instructor.

Terry Cronin, JDPSN started practicing Zen and Christian contemplation in 1980 while a student at Yale Divinity School. Since 1986, he has trained in the Kwan Um School of Zen. He is Guiding teacher at the Northern Light Zen Center in Topsham, Maine, and received inka from Zen Master Soeng Hyangin April 2014. For the past 21 years he has worked in a variety of roles for hospice programs, currently serving as a hospice chaplain. He and his wife live in Maine and have one adult son.
