The Hidden Lamp Workshop

Posted on Apr 08 , 2014 in Upcoming Events

Saturday May 3 – 10:00AM – 4:00PM: The Hidden Lamp Workshop

The Hidden Lamp coverThe Hidden Lamp is a new book of one hundred stories of awakened Buddhist women from the time of the Buddha until the present – mothers, old woman, teenagers, nuns, prostitutes, servants, slaves. These stories explore life and death, sexuality, family, identity, and what it means to wake up as what we really are in this world.

We will explore the teaching of The Hidden Lamp together, seeing what light it sheds on our own situation. Through silence, dialogue, story telling, and writing, we will each uncover the hidden lamp in our own hearts. The day will be led by the creators and co-editors of the book, both members of the Everyday Zen sangha.

Providence Zen Center’s Co-Guiding Teacher and contributor to The Hidden Lamp, Nancy Hedgpeth, JDPSN will also read and participate in the workshop.

FlorencetrueFlorence Caplow is a Zen priest, candidate for Unitarian Universalist ministry, and co- editor of The Hidden Lamp. She has been practicing Vipassana and Zen for thirty years with joy and wonder at the gifts of the path.

Susan-MoonSue Moon is a lay-entrusted teacher with Everyday Zen, a writer and teacher of writing, the co-editor of The Hidden Lamp, and the author of This is Getting Old: Zen Thoughts on Aging with Humor and Dignity.
